The egg is the symbol of life, renewal, new beginnings.This detailed hand made design byDonald Pollardresembles a Russian lacquered or Fabergé Egg. ‘Alargecrystal egg shape weighing about 5lbs. is formed of the legendary optically pure glass andat it's center is a solid cast 18k gold floral arrangement, some petals brushed with white enamel. This egg is mounted on a marked 18K gold pedestal ring for a base.(approx. 2-3 ounces solid 18k gold current est. $5800.) Also signed Steuben in script on the bottom.

Donald Pollard was a favorite mid centurydesigner for Steuben. He is noted for a number of major works embellished with gold and jewels. He designed the US gift of statethe Great Ring of Canadaas well as manyiconic vases and bowls such as the Trillium and Calyx bowls, Spiral and Whirlpool Vases and mid century modern bar ware. His works are in the collections of many museums.

This vintage piecedoes not appear to have been displayed or out of it's red leatherbox, with no chips, no cracks, no scratches, no nicks or other damage. TheEggmeasures approx. 5" tall by 5"wide and rests onit's 18K goldbase.The vintagered leather boxshows wear to the leather and edgesbut isfree of nicotine or mildew odors or stains.

Steuben was noted for their rigorous attention to detail and for the high quality of their glass. They stated in their literature that they did not market "seconds". In fact, they noted that such pieces were destroyed in house. Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903 and was located in the Fingerlakes Region of New York State. By following strict standards for design and manufacture they achieved recognition as the world's premier glassworks. Steuben Glass was frequently the gift of state by US Presidents to foreign dignitaries. Steuben, a recognizedluxury brand.
