Extremely rare and original 1/6 daguerreotype in Cornelius' brass frame. The sitter is identified on the back as Walter Cresson, portrait made May 8, 1840, signed R. Cornelius, Phila.The dimensions of the frame are 4" x 3.5".
Another daguerreotype by Cornelius of Walter's brother, Essen, is in the collection of the Library of Congress. It's in the similar style frame and is dated May 30, 1840.
Dag is in very good condition though the image is faded. Still an important piece of photographic history as is.
