Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, Friendship 7 spacecraft, was the first crewed orbital space flight of Project Mercury, piloted by Astronaut John H. Glenn, Jr., launched on February 20, 1962, splashdown hours later in the North Atlantic Ocean on February 20.
