Vintage Carved “Potlatch” Headress - 3 Basket Rings - Ivan Otterlifter - Ermine:

Purchased with some other pieces many years ago, which was part of a large Alaska native collection.

Don’t know whom the artist is or how old the piece is, but I’ve been told it resembles the work of Cherokee artist Ivan Otterlifter whom was from British Columbia and was adopted into the Tlingit culture, which he did many designs of.

Otterlifter was born in 1936 and died in 1999.

His works are displayed throughout the country and around the world in private collections and museums and are worth a significant amount of money and have brought tens of thousands at sale.

Very traditional down to all the materials used to include trade cloth, abalone shell, sinew stitching, ermine, feathers, hide and the list goes on.

Appears to be from the 1800’s, which I believe were his intentions like the works of Rich Lavalle.
