This model, first displayed at the London International Exhibition of 1871, highlights majolica’s malleable, sculptural qualities as well as the Wedgwood company’s ongoing effort to introduce novel shapes into its production. French-born Hugues Protât designed this vase along with many other majolica forms for Wedgwood during the 1870s.
