- The film is based on real events that took place between 1967 and 1972 during the Second Indochina War [ 11 ] .
- The character of American Kat Francis is reminiscent of the famous American film actress and anti-war activist Jane Fonda , who in 1972 made a two-week visit to North Vietnam [ 12 ] , held an anti-American press conference with the participation of American prisoners of war and spoke several times on Hanoi radio calling on American servicemen not to participate in this war.
- At the end of the film, several famous Soviet stuntmen, uncredited, played the roles of captured American pilots: Uldis-Janis Veispals, Aldo Tammsaar, Alexander Filatov, Alexander Samsonov. [ 13 ]
- During the filming of the movie, cultural differences were noted between the Soviet and Vietnamese crew members, for example, during the latter's public urination [ 14 ] .
- The film's director, Samvel Gasparov, was given a jeep in Vietnam, but he had to refuse it due to high import duties. After returning to the USSR, the director used his salary for the film to buy an imported VCR at the Beryozka store [ 14 ] .

The film was based on the 1972 screenplay Eye of the Storm ( Viet. Mắt bão ) by renowned Vietnamese screenwriter Hoang Thich Thi.
PlotA caravan of Vietnamese guerrillas moves along the Ho Chi Minh Trail . Among them is American actress and singer Kat Francis , who came to Vietnamto tell the truth about the Vietnam War back home in the United States . American troops are bombing peaceful Vietnamese towns and villages, breaking into homes, and killing the population.
To deprive North Vietnam of food supplies, American aircraft mine Halong Bay and other North Vietnamese ports. All European ships leave the shores of North Vietnam. But the crew of the Soviet cargo ship Chelyabinsk , despite an ultimatum from the American military, refuses to go home. A Vietnamese sapper named Phong returned from the Soviet Union on this ship , along with his friend, a young Soviet bridge engineer named Ilya Krutin . A few days later, the Americans shell the ship, leaving only a charred hull. Soviet sailors provide assistance to the Vietnamese side and participate in clearing the rubble from the bombings.
Meanwhile, American Kat Francis reaches the North Vietnamese port of Haiphong , where she meets Mai , a Vietnamese woman —Phong's wife, whose child died during an air raid. Mai introduces Kat to her husband and the Soviet sailors. Together, Soviet specialists and Vietnamese communists risk their lives to clear mines from the harbors and manage to prevent an explosion in Haiphong port planned by American intelligence. Kat Francis holds an anti-war press conference with the participation of American prisoners of war.
