Listed for sale is a unique display which contains the autographs of [10] ten American fighter pilots who achieved ace status during World War I. The newly formed American Expeditionary Force of the United States Air Service arrived in Europe and began air operations in the spring 1918. United States Air Service would shoot down seven hundred fifty-six enemy aircraft and seventy-one American pilots would achieve ace status. The display is centered around a striking color image of an American fighter aircraft in aerial combat with a German aircraft. Mounted around the photograph are the autographs of the following American aces, Arthur R. Brooks 22nd Aero Squadron, achieved six aerial victories, Frank K. Hayes 13th Aero Squadron, achieved six aerial victories, Lawrence K. Callahan 148th Aerial Squadron, achieved six aerial victories, Harold E. Hartney 27th Aero Squadron, achieved seven aerial victories, George A. Vaughn Jr. 17th Aero Squadron, achieved thirteen aerial victories, [2nd highest scoring American ace to survive the war] Everett R. Cook 91st Aero Squadron, achieved five aerial victories, Douglas Campbell 94th Aerial Squadron, achieved five aerial victories, Edward V. Rickenbacker 94th Aerial Squadron, achieved twenty-six aerial victories [leading American ace of the war], Robert O. Lindsay 139th Aerial Squadron, achieved six aerial victories. The autographs are bold, display very nicely and all of them with the exception of the autographs of Robert Lindsay, Frank Hays are signed on letters. The letters are mounted behind the matting with just the autographs displayed, the autographs of Lindsay and Hays are signed on cards. Also mounted within the display are two World War I U.S. Army Aviation circle patches [quality reproductions], two World War I U.S. silver pilot's wings [quality reproductions], and two U.S. emblems [quality reproductions]. The final item is a professionally engraved plaque which lists the names of the ten aces as noted above, along with the following, ''United Sates Air Service - American Expeditionary Force - World War I Flying Aces. In the spring of 1918, the United States began air operations in France. During the war the U.S. Air Service fielded forty-five squadrons, destroyed seven hundred fifty-six enemy aircraft, seventy-six balloons, and seventy-one American pursuit pilots were credited with shooting down five or more German aircrafts, becoming America's first flying aces''. The framing for the display is stunning and you will be quite surprised by its quality and appearance. The display is double matted in an Army green linen outer matte and accented with a blue inner matte. The wood frame is quite unique, it has the appearance of a black iron bar with rivets and has been completed to the dimensions of 28.00 x 24.00. The display is stunning, contains the authentic autographs of ten [10] United States World War I fighter aces and will be a desirable addition to any military collection.
