SAVING CIVIL WAR HISTORY,CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE LOUIS HAIMAN COLUMBUS GEORGIA ARTILLERY SWORD ONE OF 10 KNOWN, ORIGINALLY PICTURED IN ALBAUGH'S BOOK AS DOG RIVER, AFTER MUCH RESEARCH IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY MADE BY LOUIS HAIMAN & BROTHERS. THIS SWORD WAS OWNED BY AUTHOR KEVIN HOFFMAN.This exact sword is pictured in Bill Albaugh’s 1963 Photographic Supplement of Confederate Swords, page 198. There has always been conjecture as to who made these sabers. Opinions of makers include Boyle & Gamble, Louis Froelich, & Nashville Plow Works. I am fairly certain based on receipts from Louis Haiman & Brother Columbus Sword manufactory showing several hundred artillery sabers made & paid early & late war that Haiman is the maker. Other reasons are manufacturing characteristics of his known sabers: lead soldered lap seamed scabbards, lead soldered iron drags, single iron wire grip wrap, heavy brass mounts, offset peening, forging flaw "fault" prominent near ricasso showing blacksmith weld of iron tang to steel blade. Some of these observations can be made about the other often cited makers, but not all that are all characteristic of Louis Haiman & no quantities of purchases are known from any other maker.I AM NOT THE CHEAPEST BUT MY SWORDS ARE REAL.WHEN YOU BUY THE BEST YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO MAKE EXCUSES LATER.
