This is an important very fine and rare original 19 century Italian micromosaic panel of three birds within a flower field baskets in a museum quality Sold the collection of Gianni Versace Sothebys New York 5-7 April 2001 lot 139. He peas in beautiful detail an excellent condition with an original 19 century gold leaf car wooden frame. It measures approximately the panel is 9 inches height by 11 1/2 width.
This subject is inspired by an Ancient Roman floor mosaic now in the Vatican Museum. Dolls are frequently used in micromosaic a symbol of love and Fidelity. It table top with this subject is found in Gilbert collection (see Jeanette Hanisee Gabriel , micromosaics . The Gilbert collection, 2000 no. 71, p. 133 .
