This World War II-dated MacDill Field Class B identification pass for Private Donald F. Koeller is stamp-dated March 21, 1942, and bears an affixed photograph along with the bold fountain pen signature of Captain Paul W. Tibbets Jr. as commanding officer of the 340th Bomb Squadron. Signed just months after the United States entered World War II, the pass dates to Tibbets’ early command at MacDill Field, where his exceptional leadership helped pave the way for his later appointment to lead the 509th Composite Group and command the historic Enola Gay mission that ended the war in the Pacific. Early wartime signatures from Tibbets are scarce and represent a significant piece of military aviation history. PSA authenticated and encapsulated (4.25x7.25”). Includes a PSA letter of authenticity.
