This exceptional, masterfully hand-carved Italian alabaster sculpture depicts the classic Biblical romance subject, "Rebecca at the Well" (from the Book of Genesis). The figure shows Rebecca in draped classical attire, leaning gracefully against a brick well, resting her head gently on her hands over her water pitcher.

The piece exhibits the hallmarks of high-end Tuscan stonework from the turn of the century. The contrast between the softly polished, translucent skin of the figure, the detailed texture of her hair turban, and the rugged, chiseled texture of the stone well and rope showcases spectacular multi-textured carving.
