PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMPOSING A NEGATIVE MESSAGE TO MEPersonal Background of Origin -I can attest to this necklace being in my family for over 100 yearsThis necklace was obtained by my grandfather in the late 1920's. It was passed on to my mother in the 1960's. I inherited it in the 1990's.A recent message accused me of lying about my grandfather obtaining this in the 1920's was childish and a form of trying to manipulate me into lowering the price that they thought it was worth. This particular person stated that it was made in the 1950's, having never inspected it in person or finding anything that resembles this. It is all supposition and insulting behavior.Please refrain from sending me scolding, condescending messages. I don't appreciate attempts at being manipulated to drop the price. Obviously there is sentimental value attached to this and I am not letting it go cheap.I will thank one for their nput, however I will not reply with anything more in a response should one decide to compose a negative message to me. I will not engage past a simple, "Thank you for your input "I know the history of this necklace. I've seen photos of my mother wearing this necklace when she was a young girl around 8 years old (1944) She was born in 1936.It's impossible for this necklace to be made in the 1950's when she wore it as a young girl in the early 1940's.The necklace was restrung in the 1960's by my mother after the original sinew string rotted and broke. She restrung it to its original form.I have never found any other necklace like this. I have done extensive research online and through AI examination. If is extremely rare!I will entertain reasonable offers but I will not tolerate abusive messages accusing my late mother and late grandfather of lying.If one thinks that browbeating me in messages will make me drop the price, I would rethink composing anything. Often referred to as a fetish necklace.Crushed turquoise inlay: The inlay was meticulously placed by hand using a technique where the tribal member arranged small turquoise chips embedding them in a resin or other natural adhesive.This is typical of Zuni stonework. This "chip inlay" was especially popular in Navajo and Zuni jewelryThere is nothing artificial in the composition of this necklace.Materials are all fashioned by the artist/tribe member. The wood and bone are hand carved. Nothing is manufactured!The heishi-style bone beads range from 1/4" wide to as small as 1/16". They vary in size and color. Color range is light tan to dark brown. They are smooth from age.Inlay work on the decorative"paddles" are hand carved turquoise, bone and red coral. The 10 "paddle " shape oval decorative pieces are 1" long, .50 or 1/2" wideThe base material for the paddles and Thunderbird are hand hewn carved, wood possibly ironwood. The ebony color is consistent with no fading.This necklace has no silver.The Thunderbird has one small missing turquoise inlay piece. The other inlay pieces are intact. The Thunderbird is 1.75" long, 1" wideThis Thunderbird necklace was made with great skill.This necklace has not been cleaned! The patina is natural.Overall length is 26"
There are 132 bone beadsThis really should be in a museum. Inquiries invited. It is framed, only taken out to photograph.
