Original circa 1870's-1880's or so tintype of a boy riding a wood carved carousel horse. The horse appears to have superb original paint. It is our thought that the boy riding the horse is probably the son of the carousel horse maker. But, this is just a guess on our part. In any event, we absolutely 100% guarantee that this is a carousel horse in the photo & NOT a rocking horse & NOT a platform horse. It is extremely rare to find a carousel horse in a tintype photo!!!!!
In over 50 years of being actively involved with antique photos this is the one & only example of a tintype photo showing a boy on a carousel horse that we have ever owned. Actually, it is the one & only that we have ever even seen. We will leave it up to the carousel figure experts out there in land to identify the specific maker of the horse.Measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches.There are tiny bends at the four corner tips. There is a tiny line of surface rust 1/32 inch wide by 1 inch long at the right border. Otherwise, the front is in superb condition. The back has a matt semi-circular emulsion flow that occurred in the making & the back is superb.This very rare tintype was originally found in Prospect, Pennsylvania.Please examine the photos closely & purchase based on your own judgement as to condition & value.
