Earth Day Ideas for the Whole Family

How are you celebrating Earth Day? If you’re looking for a way to mark this holiday with your children, check out these fun family Earth Day ideas!
Plant a Tree
Add to the greenery in your yard and plant a tree together. If you don’t have room for a tree, choose a smaller plant, flowers or start a container vegetable garden.
Upcycle an Everyday Object
Collect glass jars, plastic yogurt containers or other similar items from around the house. Give each family member a choice of everyday items and hold a contest to see who can upcycle their pick in the most useful way.
Create a Collage
Use old worksheets, flyers, junk mail or old magazines to create an Earth collage. Cut the papers into shapes in different sizes. Use a recycled cardboard box as a base for the project. Have your child draw an Earth-shaped circle on the cardboard. Add the continents and the oceans. Glue the cut papers onto the cardboard. If needed, add green paint to highlight the continents and blue for the oceans.
Make a To-Do List
Don’t worry if your family can’t put all their Earth Day ideas (such as staging a community park clean-up or a school-wide recycling event) into action right now. Create a to-do list that you can check off in the next days, weeks and months.
