Thanksgiving Leftover Recipe Ideas
It’s almost time for turkey! Thanksgiving is coming up and that means you’re getting ready to prepare your family’s feast. You spend weeks pouring over recipes, days planning a menu and plenty of time shopping. And then there’s the cooking. You spend an entire day (or a few) in the kitchen, and suddenly …it’s over.
In hours your family has celebrated the holiday and the meal is done. But you still have plenty of food leftover. Obviously, you don’t want to waste any of it. What can you do? Check out these post-Thanksgiving leftover ideas.
This is a staple of the after-Thanksgiving Day meal. You can customize the salad to fit your family’s needs (and tastes). Start with chopped turkey, add a low-fat mayo and mix it together. Here’s where the fun comes in. Go traditional and add extras such as chopped celery and pickles or keep the fall festivities going and mix in cranberries and diced roasted pecans.
Forget about the ketchup and mustard, cranberry sauce is your new condiment now. Spread the sauce on thick whole grain bread, and then pile on the turkey. You can also use the sauce to dress up a grilled cheese sandwich, pair it with grilled zucchini for a veggie delight or even smother hamburgers with it.
Use the leftover sweet potatoes as a dessert, instead of a side dish. Whip them well and spread them into a graham cracker pie crust. Top with a thin layer of sweet cranberry sauce or bake it with marshmallows on top to toast.
