Flag Day Treats to Make with Your Child
Your child can get creative in the kitchen, helping you to whip up a few Flag Day themed treats. Celebrate the red, white and blue with these easy to make desserts!
Red, White and Blue Layer Cake
With a little food coloring and a lot of imagination, your child can help you to create this multi-layer (and multi-hued) treat. Choose your favorite vanilla cake recipe or use a boxed mix. You’ll need enough batter to make three full circle-shaped cakes. Add a few drops of blue food coloring to one batch of batter and red to another. Keep the third plain. After baking the cakes and letting the cool, stack them. Spread white icing in between the layers. Frost the cake with white icing and add red, white and blue sprinkles to the top and sides.
Freeze your own popsicles, using small-sized (bathroom-sized) paper cups. Pour cherry juice, your child’s favorite blue raspberry drink and white grape juice into the cups. Add a popsicle stick into each cup and freeze.
Bake your favorite brownie recipe or use a boxed mix. Frost the entire sheet of brownies with white icing. Add red and blue to the white by sprinkling raspberries, cut strawberry slices and blueberries to the top.
