How To Make Hanukkah Dreidel Cookies
Make a dreidel—out of sugar cookies! This Hanukkah holiday treat is easy to make, even if you aren’t an expert baker. Gather the family in the kitchen for a cookie-making activity that everyone can enjoy. Read on for the how-to steps and creative cookie gift ideas.
What You’ll Need
You have a few different options when it comes to dreidel decorated cookies. If you have a favorite sugar cookie recipe, bake the treats from scratch. If not, or if you prefer something simple, start with refrigerated dough. After the dough is ready to go, you’ll need two cookie cutters—a square and a triangle. Along with these items, you’ll also need at least two colors of icing, toothpicks and licorice strands.
What to Do Next
After you cut the cookie dough into squares and triangles, puzzle the shapes together into dreidels. Bake the sugar cookie dreidels according to the recipe’s or ready-to-cook dough’s instructions. After the dreidels come out of the oven, let them cool completely.
Decorate the Dreidels
Cover the cookies in icing. Add one Hebrew letter to each cookie with another color of icing. Use a toothpick to draw the letters onto the cookies. Cut the licorice strips into small pieces and press one into the top of each cookie.
