3 Pumpkin Pie Alternatives for Thanksgiving
Forget about the same plain old pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving. Your kiddos can help you in the kitchen and create pumpkin-themed treats. Instead of the traditional pie, try out these pumpkin-y picks. The whole family can get in on the cooking, and eating, action!
Pumpkin Pudding Pies
Make individual pumpkin pies with mini crusts and pudding. Start with ready-made mini crusts. Whip up a batch of boxed pumpkin flavored pudding. The kids can help to measure and mix the ingredients. Spoon the pudding into the pie crusts and refrigerate for two to three hours, or until firm. Top the pies with whipped cream and a hint of cinnamon.
Pumpkin Cupcakes
Use your favorite yellow cake recipe or a boxed mix. Add in a few drops or orange food coloring and a pinch of pumpkin spice for flavor. Bakes the cupcakes, following the recipe or boxed mix’s directions. Let the cupcakes cool. Drip a few drops of orange food coloring into white frosting. Top the pumpkin cupcakes with the orange frosting and add a Cut piece of green licorice as a stem.
Pumpkin Cookie Cake
Don’t have time to bake? Start with a pre-made cookie cake. Frost the cake with orange-colored icing. Like the cupcakes, mix a few drops of orange food coloring into white icing. Add a hint of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spices to the blend. Cut a pumpkin flavored cookie into a rectangle shape and frost with green icing. Place the cookie at the top of the cake to make a stem. Use fall-colored frosting to write a special Thanksgiving message on the cookie cake.
