Autumnal Equinox Activities for Kids
The autumnal equinox happens on September 23. Celebrate the first day of fall with a few fun-filled family activities. Whether your kiddo is artsy, love the great outdoors or enjoys cooking, these ideas will keep them busy all day long!
Haves the leaves turned from summer green to fall orange? If not, your child can still explore the colors of fall. Gather a few fallen leaves—green, brown, yellow, or any color. Pour pools of autumn-hued paint colors onto paper plates. Dip the leaves (one at a time) into the paint. Press the leaves onto poster board, card stock or another paper. Let the prints dry and hang the fall décor.
Take an autumnal equinox nature walk. Bring along a camera to document the trip or have your child sketch what they see. Collect fallen leaves, twigs, or other nature items in a paper bag. Bring these finds inside and help your child collage them onto cardboard.
Create a fall themed snack with your kiddo. Use a leaf-shaped cookie cutter to make a sweet treat or frost chocolate cupcakes with orange and yellow icing. If you’re looking for a healthy option, slice red, yellow, and orange peppers, let your child arrange them artfully on a plate and serve the veggies with a side of hummus or dip.
