Labor Day Backyard Party Buffet Ideas
Are you planning a Labor Day party? Celebrate this special day with a backyard bash! Instead of a catered event, ask the kids to help out and whip up a holiday meal. If you’re not sure where to start, check out these easy barbecue and picnic recipe ideas.
Start the party with a selection of sweet and savory salads. Create your own salad bar and let the kids help you to choose what your family will offer. These could include:
- Different types of lettuce- such as arugula, iceberg or Romaine
- Beans- such as kidney beans, black beans, or chick peas
- Chopped green, red and yellow peppers
- Shredded carrots
- Shredded cheese
- Nuts or seeds- such as slivered almonds, pine nuts, or shelled sunflower seeds
You can also add cut fruit for guests who want a sweet salad option.
Add a sandwich bar to the salad buffet. Guests can use the veggies from the salad area, adding them to hoagies rolls, multigrain bread, hummus and deli meat. Ask the kids to help you mix a batch of tuna salad or chicken salad too! Chop grilled chicken or shred canned tuna. Place the chicken or tuna into a bowl and ask the kids to spoon in mayo, relish, chopped celery and anything else you want.
Complete the Labor Day buffet with a few dessert options. Bake your favorite sugar cookie recipe and let the kids top the treats with vanilla frosting and red, white and blue sprinkles. Along with the cookies, create berry parfaits- with granola, vanilla yogurt and berries.
