World Tourism Day Activities for Kids
Celebrate World Tourism Day by taking your child out for an adventure! Okay, so you don’t have to take her on a trip around the world. But, you can mark this special day with a fun-filled family stay-cation. That’s right! You don’t have to leave your hometown to take part in typical ‘tourist’ activities. What can you do?
- Visit a museum.
Go on an artsy adventure. Head out to the art museum for the afternoon. Not only are you ‘touring’ the museum, but you can pretend to travel around the world too. Visit works of art from all over America, Europe and Asia while walking through the museum’s galleries. Take a look at foreign landscapes or pretend like you’re walking through one of the cities that is hanging on the museum’s walls.
- Take in some history.
If you have a history center nearby, you can spend the day learning about different time periods, places and events. If not, search for local historical sites. These include historical homes, battlefields or historic districts.
- Stay at a hotel.
You don’t have to travel far away from home to stay at a hotel. Take an overnight trip to a nearby hotel or find a family-friendly bed and breakfast that’s close to you.
- Go to a theme park.
The end of September’s weather is still warm enough to play outside. Instead of the typical playground trip, take your child to a theme park. It’s the perfect way to celebrate World Tourism Day!
