Veteran’s Day Art Ideas for Children
Help your child to better understand the importance of Veteran’s Day with a few easy-to-understand activities. Younger children may have a difficult time grasping the concept of military service. But that doesn’t mean they can’t celebrate veterans and everything they’ve done and continue to do. If you’re on the lookout for a way to help your child understand the meaning of this special day, check out these kid-friendly activity ideas.
Draw a Portrait
Research veterans in books and online. Discuss military service and find pictures of veterans from different eras. Your child can pick a picture and draw it in their own way. Create the portrait using markers, pens, crayons, pencils or paints.
Create a Flag
Celebrate military service with a tribute to America. Give your child a rectangle-shaped piece of cardboard and red, white and blue tissue or construction paper and glue. They can cut or tear the paper into smaller pieces. Collage the paper onto the cardboard to create a colorful American flag.
Create a Collage
Along with a flag collage, your child can also create a military-themed version. Look for pictures of military personnel in action. Search through child-friendly magazines or print pictures from online sources. Cut the pictures out and help your child to collage them onto a larger piece of poster board paper.
